Fruitful Vine is celebrating our 15th Anniversary this year and we want you to be a part of the celebration! Throughout the year we will be having various events to commemorate the occasion. We will be posting special birth photos and stories and invite you to share yours with us.
With Fruitful Vine’s 15 year anniversary coming up, I wanted to take a minute to share how much Sharon and the staff at Fruitful Vine have impacted me and my family! I never was one of those women that spent their whole life dreaming about having kids and becoming a mom. It’s not that I hated kids or anything, I just had other dreams and desires to achieve before “becoming tied down” with children. Eventually my husband and I became pregnant with Isaiah and as I began praying about his birth, I knew God was challenging me to trust Him with an all natural-out of hospital birth experience. Let me tell you, this FREAKED me out because my #1 lifelong fear had always been having a baby ALL NATURAL!! Scared and uncertain of the unknown, Sharon’s loving encouragement, guidance, skills, experience, and timely words of truth spoke directly to my heart and helped me face my ultimate fear with courage and trust in our awesome Lord. My first birth experience was not easy or short but it was filled with truth and peace from my gifted midwife, especially when I was ready to give up and go get an epidural! I can honestly say that childbirth is one of the most spiritual, awesome experiences a woman could ever have. I am now 4 weeks away from delivering our 3rd child at home and (for me) I couldn’t imagine birthing with anyone else or in any other way. I actually look FORWARD to labor and birth and I am so thankful that God guided me to Sharon at Fruitful Vine! By the way, I love being “tied down” with children now ;-) Chastity Thompson Isaiah River-1/2/09- born at Fruitful Vine with Sharon Anna Rose- 3/11/11- born at home with Sharon Baby boy due- 2/9/13- to be born at home with Sharon
Fifteen years of Fruitful Vine! I’m not sure I can accurately express how incredibly grateful I am to have been welcomed into the Fruitful Vine family 6 years ago, with my first pregnancy. I was never a person who longed for natural childbirth, or had any clue how revolutionary the experience would be in my own life. I was fortunate to attend a friend’s homebirth and replace TV images with a real-life experience that rocked my world. My mind was changed immediately. I found out I was pregnant right around that
time, and I was blessed to schedule my first appointment with a woman I now consider one of my dearest friends, Sharon Schmidt.
Sharon has been so much more than a midwife to us, and to so many others. She is a friend. Truly. She has held my hand when I was scared, cried when I was sad, and delighted in my joy. The gift that she gives pregnant women is far more than childbirth assistance, it is herself. She engages and loves her patients. She cares about their whole lives. She wants what they want. She works for it. She is strong when we need strength. She is gentle when we need a soft place to fall. She is truly gifted and called to serve women in this way.
I have had 3 births with Sharon in the past 6 years, and am currently 38 weeks pregnant. I look forward to this next birth, not just because of the new life it will bring, but because I know and trust my friend. She walked me into motherhood the first time, and she will walk me into mothering this new child as well. She is truly a treasure to me.
You know how they say there’s no place like home? When it comes to pregnancy and childbirth, Fruitful Vine is most definitely my home. I am so very grateful to have found it.

So blessed to have delivered 3 of my blessings with this AMAZING midwife. Praying to do it again if the Lord sees fit :-) Congratulations on 15 years Sharon!
Eleven years ago, when I was 18 years old, I watched Sharon Schmidt help bring my youngest sister into the world. It was a peaceful, incredible experience that showed me what kind of birth I wanted to have when the time came. Eight years later, Sharon was there for me when my sweet Hailey was born at Fruitful Vine. Ten days after Hailey's birthday, Sharon was there when my nephew, Elijah, was born. How amazing is that!?! I look forward to birthing more babies with this incredible birth center we're so blessed to have. ♥
